In 1687, the Gebs Chosen opened a rift that came to be known as the Togomud Sink. This rift's opening triggered a sequence of catastrophic events that were collectively referred to as the Karnegmoth Cataclysm.
The Togomud Sink is an interdimensional rift between the worlds of Granitoid and Bal-Kriav. On the Bal-Kriav side, within the Karnegmoth region, the rift is located in the Ogremoch Mesa. The opening spans four miles across, descending into a seemingly bottomless chasm. When the rift was first formed, the primal essence of Granitoid, an Elemental Ring World, began spilling into Bal-Kriav. This permeated the surrounding walls with countless gemstones and bountiful ore veins, which were subsequently claimed by the Rilirthad Empire. While the riches attracted many, the mining in this area near the rift has proven treacherous, with miners facing the constant threat of toxic gas, avalanches, or fierce storms of earth, rock, and mud erupting from the other side.
Togomud Sink is one of the peculiarities that give rise to the Brownlands. The Brownlands are regions of Karnegmoth that have been transformed through contact with the primordial earth, mud and stone from Granitoid.
Rivers of elemental mud flow through vast channels carved into the Ogremoch Mesa, then merge to form the "headwaters" of the Mud Flow as they cascade down beautifully sculpted terraces. One mile into Togomud Sink, beyond the slow-moving mud flows, lies the boundary between Bal-Kriav and Granitoid. This area teems with churning earth, mud, and rock, punctuated by volatile gases and eruptions of earthy material. Continuing toward Granitoid, travelers enter a vast soup of the same churning rock and mud, spanning hundreds of miles in every direction. This region, known as Togumund, is a perilous sea where survival for non-earth elementals seeking Granitoid's surface, five miles above, is nearly impossible.
Since the rift's opening, Togomud Sink has become an entry point to Bal-Kriav for the Earthen of Granitoid. However, not all readily come through, as rumors have spread that they are liable to be enslaved or compelled to serve the Rilirthad military.
