When the empire of Tinnanguth fell, the land around it was seized by their former slaves, the Earthen. These elemental creatures all hailed from the realm of Granitoid. They were the result of centuries of summonings and conjurations, all bound to serve. After the Dao Insurrection and the centuries that followed, they proved far more dangerous than their predecessors. Tinnanguth had focused on acquiring resources, often by force when deemed necessary. Their former slaves, now in power, sought to transform the land around them. Once restricted by their masters to mining, labor, and other tasks, the more intelligent Earthen turned to improving their circumstances, while others pursued research and change. They applied their remarkable understanding of earth, stone, and metals to construct wondrous engineering marvels that rise and fall with the surrounding landscape. In the Utarn Archives, a near-mirror of the Râpha-Sûn library destroyed during the Dao Civil War, they found lore, histories, and writings of Tinnanguth, Ethenoran, Abâthigûr, and Horgon (159 HE - 537 HE), as well as the pre-Horgon city-states on Osâchar.
In the seventeenth century, the scientists of Rilirthad commenced experimenting with Rifts. The mastermind behind these endeavors was Drachmon, who presided over Rilirthad for two centuries, impersonating diverse personas and briefly occupying the throne, advancing his policy of transforming Karnegmoth into a mirror reflection of Chaos's ring world Granitoid.
Karnegmoth is gradually undergoing transformation as elemental energy and matter flows into the region through permanent portals. These gateways permit the passage of matter, energy, and occasionally creatures, from Granitoid to the world of Bal-Kriav.
The rift known as the Togomud Sink opened in 1687, sparking the Karnegmoth Cataclysm. The event gave rise to the Mud Flow, a tumultuous river of molten rock and mud, generated by the alien energy and materials escaping from the rift.
The largest organization endeavoring to conclude the Karnegmoth Cataclysm is the Greenland Alliance. The regions of Karnegmoth unaffected by the elemental disruption or restored are colloquially known as the Greenlands. Various factions within Karnegmoth work to bring an end to this catastrophic event.
The threat of the Karnegmoth Cataclysm is so severe that the demigod Lokestant works directly to counteract it. She opened the Waterhaven Channel to counter the earthen matter with water. In 1810, Poseidon created a great whirlpool, the Eye of Poseidon, as an additional measure against the machinations of Rilirthad and Geb fanatics like Gebs Chosen.
