The giff platform is a type of void merchant vessel. They rank among the more prevalent merchant ships utilized by Void-traveling peoples. Varying in scale and cost, they are universally massive and fashioned to a bestial aesthetic. Most possess colossal, beastly legs akin to terrestrial creatures such as elephants or rhinoceroses. The deck railings, masts, and every other ship component display ornate craftsmanship. The masonry work on giff platforms becomes increasingly elaborate over time, as the vessel's master mason adds to the design with each voyage, and if he perishes, another will continue the work, infusing it with their own personal touch.
Often times, the more ornately crafted a ship, the greater the rates it can command. This is not due to the captain's increased honesty, but rather because the ship's intricate workmanship denotes extensive service, and that it is a seasoned veteran of lengthy voyages who has weathered the numerous perils of traversing the Void.
Before each lengthy sea voyage, the high priests of Ptah offer blessings for the ship's safe passage, and then the esteemed priests of Atlas bestow it with fortitude. This ritual is now observed across a multitude of vessels, not solely those captained by the Giff, though the custom appears to have originated with the crews of giff seafaring platforms.

The vessel features a spacious open deck and one to two comparably sized decks below. Giff platforms boast voluminous cargo holds and an open deck layout. They are constructed from stone and Jurungen, a material that grants the ship a natural buoyancy, enabling the use of significantly smaller engines than would typically be necessary for vessels of this scale. The majority of these ships are fabricated by companies within the Giff League.
The latest giff platforms are powered by a Sphere of Arcane. Pre-1815 models typically feature pump engines. The Giff League is transitioning away from pump engines due to their high maintenance costs.
