Engineen X Vessels are a class of ships that began as submersibles. They were employed to covertly observe the islands north of Angvild. With the aid of the Creed of Tech, these vessels progressed to the skies. The most recent model class are void ships with the ability to generate spatial rifts, an effect highly beneficial in covert operations.
The Whelk Hull: Form Following Dysfunction
In the Lost Ages, the Void Machine Factory produced sleek, relativistic transport pods. Today, the Architect-Unit 0-Prime must adapt to "severely limited" energy and materials:
- Structural Geometry: The spiral, shell-like shape of the Gnomish Whelk isn't an aesthetic choice; it's a pressure-dispersal solution. Since the factory cannot currently generate the high-intensity force fields needed for flat-surface hulls to survive spatial rifts, it uses the natural strength of the spiral to handle dimensional torque.
- Material Substitution: Because the "state-owned" workers in Mechantus cannot provide the exotic star-alloys of the past, the factory's atomic build factories must "digest" iron and wood. The whelk shape allows the AI to layer these inferior materials in a reinforced pattern that mimics the durability of high-tech composites.
| Trait | Value |
|---|---|
| Early Design | Gnomish Whelk |
| Size | 160' long, 70' wide |
| Engine | Gnomish Helm |
| Speed | unknown, spatial rift |
| Crew | 40+ |
X-Tech Monthly, a newspaper of Mechantus, described the first Engineen X Ship as a Frankenstein's monster of three distinct eras:
| Component | Source | Technical Reality |
|---|---|---|
| Gnomish Helm | Current Age Magic | A primitive "battery" that provides the base power the factory's logic can't produce itself. |
| Cannons/Hull | Current Age Tech | Physical projectiles used because the ship's energy weapons are too "expensive" for the current power grid. |
| Spatial Rift Generator | Lost Age Legacy | A surviving sub-routine in the factory that folds spaceāthe only part of the ship that would be recognizable to Asoun. |
