By the 15th century of the Epochs, the Khazarkar Empire had expanded its borders westward across Cinazan, assimilating the remnants of once-great civilizations along the way. Meanwhile, thousands of miles away, the Orchish Empire was advancing northward up the valleys, across the great plateaus, and into the spires of Grashakh, annihilating most of what they encountered. The two empires clashed in the valleys and passes of Ugradrath, resulting in the Battle of the Footpaths. The Ugradrath mountain range became their natural border, eventually becoming one of the most heavily fortified areas on the continent.
The battles of this period were frontier skirmishes, nothing on a large scale. The centers of power for both sides remained distant from one another. It would take two decades for them to assemble armies against each other (cf. First Ugradrath War).
