In 1697, Deep Six voidships began to face assaults by Void Lurkers of the Trelshum Syndicate. By 1701, these attacks had diminished Deep Six's foreign trade revenues by 80%. That same year, Deep Six declared war on the Void Lurkers and any entities supporting them, thus initiating the Zharr Rikkaz ("Fire Hammer") war.
The Deep Six, unable to engage the Trelshum stealth craft directly, decided to take the war to their source. The Dumakthar government determined that punitive actions must be undertaken against the financial backers of these raiders. The Deep Six attacked their sponsors, the fire giant empire of Goth-Dyvermoir. In the ensuing engagements, great bombing runs resulted in the loss of a dozen Deep Six voidships over Goth-Dyvermoir's strongholds and cities. The fiery denizens of this empire, lacking skyships of their own, brought down the enemy's flying ships by expelling volatile gas into the atmosphere and igniting it as Deep Six vessels passed through. Many Deep Six soldiers perished in these infernos, including the decorated Khazaglindîm. This transport ship was carrying 3,000 combat troops when it was set ablaze and then crashed into Orias Vual.
In the year 1704, Goth-Dyvermoir sought a peaceful resolution and provided restitution amounting to 5,000,000 gold coins.
