Yol Kahest, the capital of Thashangriel, is built in and around the northern face of a dormant volcano called Yolos Vun. Over the centuries, this volcano has erupted with sometimes disastrous consequences for the city and its inhabitants. To mitigate potential lava flows, the city features an intricate network of aqueducts and canals. Constructed to accommodate the red dragons that have ruled the Thashangriel empire, the city's buildings are of immense proportions, many large enough to house even giants. The wealth of the empire is evident in Yol Kahest's grandeur, from its grandiose dragon statues to its obsidian cobblestone streets, colored glass windows, lava stone walls, and adamantine window grilles. The city remains remarkably clean, as any refuse is disposed of in the lava streams flowing through the sewers. Bathed in a fiery glow from the numerous ever-burning fire motes hovering above, the motes are also used decoratively, set into the eye sockets of statues, adorning their crowns, or serving as bars on windows.
