The Ashen Wastes, a volcanic wasteland, came into existence with the opening of the Sea Tunnel on 1 Lunar 2185 DE. Sathel, a Covenant general and the builder of this soon-to-be marvel, claimed that any side effects could be addressed later. Three eras later, studies from Irrangrad revealed that the Sea Tunnel was the cause of the upheaval in this remote corner of the Aerie. The researchers explained how the land is being fractured by the spinning of the Angels Way whirlpool, a portal into the Sea Tunnel. As a result, the land releases this pressure upwards through earthquakes, geysers, lava flows, and the birth of volcanoes.
The vibrant inhabitants of Kii Nev include the fiery Firenewt, majestic red dragons, the enigmatic Fyrreid, sinewy salamanders, colossal fire giants, and prowling packs of hell hounds. This untamed and anarchic realm falls under the nominal dominion of the Thashangriel Empire.
