Gharbúlúm was established by Blac'drugulois, the inaugural Emperor and founder of the Orchish Empire. He instituted an elite detachment of Githirmil to serve as his personal guard and carry out specialized missions. Reporting directly to him, they were exempt from navigating the bureaucracy and rigid hierarchy of the High Command.
In the Second Orchish Civil War, the soldiers of Gharbúlúm demonstrated unwavering loyalty to the recently deceased Blac'drugulois. A substantial contingent sought to reclaim the body of their revered leader and discover a method to resurrect him. Contenders vying for the title of Second Emperor of the Orchish Empire, however, staunchly opposed such endeavors. They engaged in conflict not only amongst themselves but also against the elite soldiers of Gharbúlúm.
When Monty the Mad ascended to the position of Second Emperor of the Orchish Empire, he swiftly eliminated the unit's steadfast loyalists, substituting them with hobgoblins who comprised his personal guard. This action of integrating hobgoblins into an elite organization that had for over a millennium been exclusive to Githirmil has engendered resentment and discord within the ranks of Gharbúlúm.
