From 1529 to 1538, known as the Duplicity Period, those of malicious nature and criminal intent were greatly assisted in deceiving their victims. A potent spell concealed specific divination magic, enabling people to be swindled, deceived, and a few virtuous beings to fall from grace (see Manjular).
In 1529, the esteemed Neld-Rac invoked a potent spell upon all mortals of Bal-Kriav. This incantation harnessed the resplendent energy emanating from the Chaos Maelstrom, as even one of his exalted power could not muster the might to evoke this ancient sorcery alone. Once the spell was complete, for a decade on the world of Bal-Kriav, detect alignments, magical disguises, and similar divination magics would often fail or yield inaccurate results.
The Balance was outraged by Neld-Rac's infringement of the Mandate of the Heavens; regulations they must all comply with to avoid falling prey to Chaos and its primordials. They were deeply troubled by Neld-Rac's employment of a prohibited device of the Lost Ages, the Wind of Duplicity.
It required the Balance and their subordinates nearly a decade to discover a method for stopping the device. They combined their collective divine power, relegating Neld-Rac to the status of Minor Power for a duration of 250 years.
