In the Zszhriiryl Uprising, the drow house of Jhalavar was deposed. Jhalavar and her siblings adopted the name Baenghym as a replacement for their fallen house. They were compelled to relinquish their family name and separate, adhering to the customary rules of war when a collective of houses attempts to seize control.
The Baenghym continue to pursue the objective of restoring Runelderil to the ancient practices, when women governed the populace and Lolth was the empire's principal deity.
The forced displacement of Runelderil's survivors during the Onyx Enmity War (915 - 920) compelled the Baenghyms to migrate northward, where they assisted in resettling and reconstructing the new capital. In this new location, the family emerged as a formidable force within the city, maintaining a virtual monopoly over the banking industry.
In 1823, the Baenghyms led the Baenghym Uprising. The objective of this civil war mirrored the Zszhriiryl Uprising, but this time they sought to install their matriarch as ruler. Regrettably, the Baenghym Uprising proved unsuccessful, and the matriarch was killed. However, the matriarch's younger twin sister managed to survive the purge of the house's prominent figures. She subsequently joined a monastery just outside of Mulun-Dûna and is still regarded as a potential threat to Runelderil. The Baenghyms persisted due to their firm grip on the empire's finances; they controlled the banks, loans, and possessed sufficient information on influential individuals to ruin them.
