In the Onyx Enmity War (915 - 920), the once-thriving city of Runelderil suffered a devastating loss, with 90% of its population perishing when the Nermanis Sea flooded their territory. Faced with this catastrophic event, the majority of the survivors sought a fresh start, migrating northeast to establish their new capital, Ghaundan. However, some chose a different path, opting to join the ranks of existing settlements such as Mulun-Dûna and Fermin, rather than undertaking the arduous task of rebuilding their lives from scratch.
The empire of Runelderil is atypical of drow societies, with a long lineage of male rulers. Even more unusual, the worship of Lolth, the Demon Queen, has vanished from the empire for over a millennium. During the Second Epoch, proselytizers from the Khazarkar Empire began propagating the faith of Set in the region of Ghaundan. When several drow houses attempted to halt the spread of Set's followers, they were swiftly eliminated by Khazarkar-backed forces. These houses rightly believed the Khazarkar Empire was using religion to infiltrate their society and transform it into a puppet state. Geb, another prominent deity, saw his worship spread to Runelderil through a powerful Church of Geb based in Mulun-Dûna.
