In the sixteenth century of the Horgon Era, the Hive Swarms wreaked havoc upon a region that subsequently took on their appellation. The voracious bug swarms forced the inhabitants of Klak-tak, a cradle of civilization, to flee northward. The Khazarkar, who hailed from the holdings of eastern Klak-tak, retreated into the Gwaelergoth Jungle. The rear-guard, scouts, druids, rangers, and others who safeguarded the refugees and prevented the swarm from penetrating the jungle came to be known as the Gwaelergoth Circle.
In the beginning, the Gwaelergoth Circle was almost exclusively composed of Terrant - the Khazarkar warrior caste, seen as expendable by the other two Khazarkar castes. Over time, during the First Epoch, its membership expanded to include the other major inhabitants of southern Gulimbor - the Tragaran and the Minotaur. Though typically in a state of mutual hostility north of the jungle, within the Gwaelergoth Circle they formed a brotherhood dedicated to shielding everyone from the devastating bug rampages that threatened to bring civilization to the brink of collapse.
In the Gulimbor Cataclysm, spanning from 996 to 1203, the neutral Gwaelergoth Circle granted safe passage through the jungle to the coastal regions. They permitted no one to take up residence within the jungle or within a five-day ride of it.
