Primus is the sole offspring of a primordial who defied his kind, employing Creation to bring forth entire realms and all that inhabits them. As a consequence of this defiance of the Primordial Mandate, the Prime Architect was hunted down and slain by the Nine-Tongued Worm. From the heart of the Prime Architect emerged his son Primus. Born on what was then designated Sphere 411, Primus matured to be significantly smaller and more refined than his progenitor. He was a mortal resolved not to remain the sole member of his lineage.

In the Dawn Era, Atlas and Primus were highly esteemed guardians responsible for overseeing the works of Creation. Toward the end of the Creation War (1486 DE - 8777 DE), they had a falling out when Atlas mistakenly believed that Primus's courteous interactions with Arcana were more than mere chivalrous conduct. Primus and Arcana share remarkably similar perspectives on the cosmos, both championing the significance of Negative Entropy and maintaining the balance of things, as well as monitoring the tumultuous Sea of Entropy and its brooding primordials. Primus's interactions with Arcana went even further, with Arcana assisting him in extending his lifespan far beyond a mortal's typical span. Today, groups like The Balance would censure a Higher Power that helped a mortal live beyond their natural years.

In the Demon Spawn War ( 89 GE - 269 GE ) , Primus employed Sparks of Creation to craft a mortal army modeled in his own image. This new race, the Giff, were tasked with safeguarding Sphere 408 from the demons running rampant across the Quara'tun System.

Primus's ascent to divine status commenced during the Lith-Crillion Era. On the world of Bal-Kriav, his emissaries propagated the ideals of commerce and cultural amalgamation under what Primus termed Plan 111, the foundation of what would evolve into the Gnemdos Trade Network. On 17 Temporal 1599 LE, with established centers of worship on Bal-Kriav and Marragh, Primus attained the rank of Cult Power.

In the First Epoch, Primus reconciled the ancient alliance with Atlas, assisting him in establishing a religious foothold on the world of Marragh. In the subsequent epoch, Primus further bolstered Atlas's veneration on the world of Bal-Kriav. In the year 1280, the preeminent temple of Primus, the Arbiters Edifice on Marragh, established a sub-sect dedicated to propagating the religion of Primus's longstanding ally. In exchange for aid in catalyzing his worship, Atlas's clerics on Bal-Kriav imparted to Primus's followers various martial proficiencies previously unknown to them.

The Lyan subclass designation and its ascending rank titles stem from the venerable appellations for the ascending floors of the Arbiters Edifice, a legendary towering structure in which Primus once dwelt and ruled. Lyans refer to their deity as The Arbiter, despite his true name, which is commonly held sacred and restricted to the most solemn ecclesiastical rites. Lyans maintain that, upon death, their souls journey to the Edifice Prime (on Regulus ), a celestial recreation of the original mythical tower, there to serve The Arbiter forevermore.
