Tetretz is a rogue modron banished from Mechanus. He had broken free from the rigid hierarchy imposed on all modrons, not by choice but due to becoming infected by a chaotic parasite. This mechanical parasite had fused itself with Tetretz's inner gears, though the origins of this complex and insidious parasite remain undetermined. The parasite was designed to replicate and infect other modrons, succeeding in infecting several hundred before being rooted out by Primus. Primus discovered that Tetretz and his many duplicates had established a secret base, where they were creating a massive device to accelerate the process of crafting more clockworks. This device had begun producing maugs, automations, Warforged, clockworks, and modrons. Primus destroyed the rogue clockworks at the base and attempted to destroy the machine with thousands of spinning gears, but what he could not destroy was cast out of Mechanus. In 1482, this enormous device came to rest in the Great Expanse of Bal-Kriav, where it became known as the Gear Monument. After several years of trying, Tetretz gave up on the Gear Monument, claiming the device had become self-willed, ignoring any attempts at guidance or control.
In the year 1531, Tetretz ventured to the lands of the Ink-Shad, taking up residence in the city of Gaudrith. His objective was to acquire raw energy for crafting novel types of machines. Within the Shadow Rift, he operated a Shade Farm, a location brimming with shadow energy, the essential component for imbuing "life" into his creations, such as the Hammerer and Pulverizer constructs.
Tetretz resides within the bustling metropolis of Gaudrith. On the enigmatic plane of Bal-Kriav, and possibly even beyond the confines of Mechanus, he is universally revered as the preeminent authority on modrons, clockworks, maugs, automations, and the warforged.
Tetretz maintains that his body no longer contains any alien material.
The bulk of Tetretz's research funding is procured from the Nînilzar.
