Halavile Freydis was a formidable necromancer who lived during the Lith-Crillion Era. He was one of the three founders of Maen Saetild. He resided at Frosvirk, and his deep involvement in dark arts transformed him into a corrupted and deformed being, resembling more of an entity from the Abyss than an Eldritch Giant. He instigated a war between Amirlof and the goliaths of Dunzakh solely to create candidates for undeath. The creation of undead from goliath remains is considered a grave offense among the Goliath of the Ice Cap region. When it was discovered that Halavile was raising corpses from the Stald ice fields, goliath emissaries were dispatched to Amirlof to determine why one of their own was violating the sanctity of the soul's journey to Valhalla. The emissaries skillfully invoked eldritch beliefs about the afterlife, persuading the two sides to cease hostilities and focus on stopping Halavile and bringing him to trial for instigating a conflict that served only his own interests.

The goliaths and the eldritch giants were uneasy allies. They each embarked on separate quests to locate and battle him, as neither party trusted the other. Initially, they were ill-equipped, for neither side had ever confronted an undead army.

An undead army is unimpeded by the elements and can march ceaselessly. They are unconstrained by the sustenance, hydration, and topographical advantages that often elude the living. The walking dead. They can traverse frigid rivers without any distress. The most effective means of combating them is to eliminate the intelligent ones. Once accomplished, the non-intelligent ones can be led over precipices, into walls of flame, or other perils.

Draki Glafnar, war chief of the Asskar, penned the Glafnar Stratagem - "Fighting an Undead Army"

In the initial confrontations, Halavile's army grew in size, for when the enemy was vanquished and driven from the battlefield, Halavile and other subordinates of the Maen Saetild went to work. After half a year into the Halavile War, the undead army numbered 3,000. Halavile found himself caught between two armies at the Second Battle of Stald. The goliaths under their war chieftains attacked from the north, while Amirlof's army struck from the south. Halavile was in the process of conjuring a blizzard when a group of chaos rocs and their eldritch giant riders flew in to assail him. He sustained critical injuries in the melee and, rather than be captured, broke his staff of the dead. This act drained the negative energy of hundreds of undead, destroying them in the process, and channeled all the energy into Halavile. He was unable to contain such immense power, and his body exploded in a tremendous blast of negative energy. Ice, armor, weapons, and bodies were blown outward with the explosion. The eldritch giants and the rocs engaged in battle were blown out of existence. The ground beneath was weakened, and the energies flowing through the Ice Cap were altered. The ribbon of Cube energy coursing through the area bent around the newly formed great rift. This rift is haunted by the anguished cries and voices of the fallen goliaths and eldritch giants. This dark canyon of Fjorvir was named Halavile, a testament to his power and a warning to those who delve too deeply into the Maen Saetild.

Two of Halavile's notable distinctions are the Black Siege Crossbow and restorative undead healing concoctions referred to as Halavile Vapors.
