Sal'rurg was an exceptionally charismatic, cunning, and power-hungry dao. During the reign of the Tinnanguth Empire, his origins mirrored those of many other Earthen, having been summoned from their homeworld of Granitoid to serve under Sussgurd masters.

At the age of 15, he was abruptly torn from his world, transported across the immense expanse of the Void in but a moment. He found himself on a mortal plane, face to face with a solitary Sussgurd wizard. It was an unexpected occurrence, yet not entirely unforeseen. Rumors had been circulating on Grantoid of this type of arcane practice. Sal'rurg had heard a wise one speak anxiously of this, "a remarkable mortal accomplishment, binding something beyond the Mortal Systems and then summoning it to their realm. They have made substantial progress since our [the primordials] invasion left Rifts scattered across their worlds like a honeycomb."

In 410, Sal'rurg was magically summoned to Bal-Kriav and given a magical adamantine amulet called a Holentur Hook. This device allowed conjuration spells and the summoned Earthen to last for years instead of hours. Sal'rurg's amulet was not unique, as he joined a dozen other dao and hundreds of earth elementals as diggers. Over the following decades, these numbers grew tenfold. Sal'rurg was the first of Tinnanguth's Earthen workforce to improve his station. He became a bodyguard for a merchant, then an administrator of his master's home, and finally the overseer of a Holentur adamantine mine. After his master's mysterious death, he was imprisoned for six years under suspicion. The investigation ended when it was discovered that the state was running a project to test the abilities of dao in roles beyond digging and building. Upon his release, Sal'rurg was selected to serve as a harem master, tasked with watching over his master's concubines, preventing their defiling and escape, and keeping them from dalliances with the staff. Under the cover of magic, Sal'rurg secretly bedded many of the concubines, disguising himself as a temporary cook, cleaner, or other staff member. It was only after Sal'rurg had renounced his carnal desires, pledging allegiance to Geb and becoming known as *The Castrated One*, that he learned he had been part of another of Tinnanguth's experiments, this one to see if half-elementals could be created through magical and natural intercourse. His treatment, and that of many others, was a catalyst for the Dao Insurrection.

In the Dao Civil War, Sal'rurg's strategic brilliance enabled him to assert dominance over the other dao warlords. On 21 Temporal 840, he founded the Rilirthad Empire, with himself appointed as its inaugural Dao Khan.
