Before they ceased operations, the birthing ponds aboard the Crillion Comet were utilized by the Lith-Crillion to propagate their species. Travelers of the Void since the early eras of the Age of Creation, they comprised the Crillion Comet's crew; tasked with monitoring the works of Creation. Traversing the starry expanse, visiting worlds, and collecting artifacts and records took considerable time, with months required to reach another world in the same system, and years or even decades to reach the next. Even with the aid of arcane and divine means, as a people they suffered medical complications from prolonged exposure to the void. Lith-Crillion records indicate that bone degeneration led to the development of the birthing ponds. Some speculate these devices are far more ancient, remnants of lost technology from the Lost Ages, unearthed during interstellar voyages into the unknown.
Birthing pools served a vital purpose, facilitated by the mating of two Lith-Crillion in a pond of ichor. If the coupling was fruitful, the egg and sperm would merge within this pool, where over the course of three years, a child would mature to adulthood. During this time, the Lith-Crillion was instructed by mentalists. Upon completion of the growth process, they departed the tank, joining the crew of the vessel.
