The Book of Pawns was composed by the demon lord Orcus. It contained the names of all demons, save the nameless ones such as the manes, who served under him during the Demon Spawn War. In addition to granting the wielder power over these demons by knowing their true names, the book also bestowed the ability to track them through a ritual. This tracking was limited to a radius of ten miles, after which the tracker would need to resort to conventional means to close in on their target. When Ghak fell to angelic forces, the unholy book fell into their possession. Bahamut himself then sanctified the book, purging its fell influences and rendering it useful for hunting down the demons listed within.
After the Angelic Departure, which transpired over the course of 270 GE to 274 GE, resulting in the departure of all celestials from the Mortal Systems, the Book of Pawns was entrusted to the Pruziig Sken.
