In the Demon Spawn War, forces under Baphomet battled those of Niruš for control of Aettein. The fighting in this sector was modest compared to others, yet no less ferocious. Niruš's main force was a division-sized unit composed largely of mounted goblins. They were trained to combat mounted, utilizing bow, lance, and light mace. One soldier in this force was a sergeant named Ezphus. In the numerous engagements of the Orulûn Division, he is credited with striking Baphomet in three distinct battles. This was accomplished with a bow he personally crafted, so arduous to draw that it demanded the strength of a hill giant. Legend suggests he derived this strength from a magical belt, plundered from a marilith riddled with arrows. Baphomet studied the arrows within him and recognized their customized nature. His agents then tortured some captives, discovering they belonged to Ezphus, and marking him for termination by Baphomet's babau assassins. They eventually caught up with him, but rather than have his trusted bow taken as a trophy, he cast it into the river Jhernarth. Days later, his bow was recovered by friendly forces, though his body was nowhere to be found. The bow was then gifted to General Niruš. In honor of Ezphus's deeds, she imbued it with great magic. She did not keep it, but allowed it to pass among the ranks, with eleven more goblins employing it against the demons and perishing in glory while unleashing a storm of resounding arrows. Much of the Bow of Orulûn's history after that remains unknown, likely spent in some treasure hoard.
The entity resurfaced during the Chaos War, with the goblins of Nemebhox harassing the southward advance of the Horde of Chaos. In one of the clashes, both the rider and their steed were felled by a flaming projectile.
The Bow of Orulûn is a mighty +5 composite shortbow (+3 Str bonus) imbued with explosive and exit wound enchantments. The weapon's construction features a laminated horn body, adorned with etchings meticulously created by the skilled hand of Ezphus. Each marking symbolizes a confirmed demon kill accomplished through the use of this formidable bow.
