The Ebon Widow Dress was crafted as a gift for the first high priestess of Lolth. Woven from shimmering spider silk and dyed an ebony hue, the garment's intricate web designs are revealed when exposed to bright light. The hallowed vestment was passed down from one high priestess to the next, enduring the rise and fall of empires and churches. During the First Epoch, drow refugees fleeing the world of Kriav utilized a feywild fuse to enter the Underdark region of Bal-Kriav known as Menortamon. These exiles would go on to establish the empire of Eldalweril and a powerful church dedicated to Lolth, with the primary objective of eradicating the surface elves of Taurelin. In the climactic High Down War, the Angrods ultimately brought about the downfall of the Eldalweril empire. As the city was besieged, the reigning high priestess of Lolth, adorned in the Ebon Widow Dress, marshaled an army of 200 giant spiders of all varieties. High Priestess Rilynt'tar perished amidst the carnage, surrounded by the bodies of her spider horde and having inflicted Lolth's wrath upon her foes. Legends recount how she ensnared dozens in webs and cocoons, and slew those who drew near with deadly, venomous bites - powers imbued within the Ebon Widow Dress.
The Ebon Widow Dress stood as a trophy in the grand halls of Mablung for almost three centuries. In 1575, the garment was pilfered by drow agents acting on behalf of Lolth. The current location of the dress remains a mystery.
