The High Down War was a conflict between the Angrod, who inhabited the eastern portion of the High Wood Country and the lands below, and the dark elves of the Eldalweril Matriarchy. The crater of Eáránë Aldaríon served as the epicenter of the hostilities. For generations, this region was plagued by raids, slave-taking, and violence.
The High Down War was the final chapter in the long-standing conflict between Angrod and Eldalweril. This time, it was the Angrods who escalated the conflict to unprecedented levels. In 1284, the Angrods uncovered a long-forgotten structure known as the Pyramid of Nature. The explorers within discovered plant and insect-controlling magic at this ancient Lith-Crillion research center. In the battles that followed, the Angrods overwhelmed the battlefields with insect swarms, followed by massive battlebriars, treants, as well as poisonous and carnivorous plants.
In the year 1300, Angrod commenced the advance into the realm of Eáránë Aldaríon, descending into the homeland of the Eldalweril. The vanguard of this incursion was a creeping mass of sentient, thorny, and constricting vines, which would become known as the Tendrils of Taurquion. The Angrods showed no mercy to the drow in their advance. Those who perished were soon infused with spores and peculiar growths, causing them to reanimate and move against their former kin.
In 1304, Angrod vanquished Eldalweril. The High Down War profoundly impacted the morality of many Angrods. They eradicated entire drow-allied settlements on the surface and underground. The preeminent stronghold to fall and be depopulated by Angrod's legions was Hyassalmo. This locale now lies in ruin, infested with sentient plants, gas spores, lethal fungi, and an assortment of other perilous flora remnants of the High Down War.
The imminent threat of extinction demanded extreme measures simply to endure the perilous conditions of that era.
