Map Taurquion Forest

Taurquion is an ancient forest with diverse tree species, yet the most majestic are those towering up to 950 feet above the forest floor, with expansive canopies that shelter entire villages within a single tree's branches. These Terril (or "terraces" in non-Elven parlance) are just one of the many tree varieties in this vast woodland, which is gradually and abnormally spreading. Near the heart of this seemingly sentient forest lies the Pyramid of Nature. Most believe this ancient Lith-Crillion edifice is the cause of Taurquion's unnaturally rapid expansion. This spread occurs through forest spearheads that slowly encroach into other lands and then backfill themselves if left undisturbed. These spearheads are known as the Tendrils of Taurquion.

A forest of burgeoning saplings, now twice the size of the previous year's growth, lies ahead. Towards the edge, briar patches, tangles, and thickets grow increasingly dense, interspersed with thinning grasses, sun-baked dirt, and rocks - all of which will eventually vanish beneath the canopy of the Tendrils. Venture into the mature growths, and you may encounter Angrod camps or patrols, for this land has become theirs.

Aredhel, from a personal diary - "The Taurquion Encroachment" The Taurquion forces have continued their relentless march across our borders, seizing more of our lands with each passing day Their sheer numbers and unbridled aggression overwhelm our defenses, leaving our people vulnerable and our morale in tatters I fear that without immediate intervention, the Taurquion invaders will succeed in their campaign to subjugate our entire realm We must rally our troops and mobilize our resources with haste, lest we be consumed by this inexorable tide of conquest

The Tendrils of Taurquion encroach upon the regions surrounding the High Wood Country. Those that venture too far into the Clans are swiftly dealt with by fire or druidic magic. The dwarves of the Clans view the Tendrils as a harbinger of elven claims to their lands. The Tendrils that creep into the Northern Hordelands are also set ablaze. The dark druids of the Witch Hordes prefer to employ more nefarious means to halt the spread of Taurquion, such as blight spells. To the east of the High Wood Country lies the Tribe Steppes. These two regions share an extensive border, making the Tribe Steppes a more vulnerable target for the encroachment of Taurquion. The Jara appear indifferent to the Tendrils' movements and may even see it as bringing elven prey closer to them.

The wood elves of the High Wood Country appear content to permit the unnatural proliferation of forests, whether by divine decree or the power of the Pyramid of Nature. Those who have interfered with the expansion of Taurquion are typically exiled, as exemplified by the case of the Exiled Twelve. In the year 1002, twelve families were accused of impeding the "natural" growth of the forest.

The Tendril spread has not always benefited the elves of the region, as evidenced by the seaweed-clogged bay of Neithreth. The Cheldremn claim that it was not the Tendrils, but rather the chaos infusion delivered by the ruins of Ralvalloth that caused this issue. Taurquion boasts forests and areas unaffected by the Tendrils, such as the islands of Drauglon, the Hedge Embrasures, Lolfedhel, Maenor, Molailvor, and Niedail. However, there are also abnormal regions like Nanyerien, where nature and entropic energy have fused, creating Entropic Breaches.

An intriguing phenomenon of Taurquion are Entropic Eddies. The presence of these anomalies causes Angrod settlements and camps in remote areas or on the frontier to descend into profound disarray. Some have even gravitated towards more sinister paths, with the most prominent example being the Amras Calafalas. This wood elf tribe is decidedly chaotic evil, driven by a compulsion for slaughter, raiding, and plunder. It is believed that their protracted fighting in the long and brutal war with Eldalweril compelled them to adopt increasingly darker tactics against their foes. This downward spiral worsened with their prolonged exposure to the chaotic emanations from one or more Entropic Eddies.
