This civil conflict commenced with the gnoll tribes of Hlothangi. The tribes of this region felt marginalized and largely forgotten by the elite inhabitants of Kennel and Broken Teeth. They were economically constrained by the prominent landowners and merchants and felt powerless before the high courts of Kennel. In the year 740, they and numerous other tribes rose up against the Drugnod Dynasty, initiating a civil war.
Near the beginning of 745, the Drugnod family were confronted with an even more significant threat than the insurgency in the rural areas. This came in the form of vampires seizing control of prominent members of society. The perpetrators behind this subterfuge were an ancient cult of vampires known as the Widows of Modrerthim. They were paving the way for those who would soon arrive to claim the souls of Drugnod's daughters, thus fulfilling the Drugnod Pact their grandparents had made three centuries earlier with Demogorgon.
Most of the Drugnod family remained unaware of the Drugnod Pact. However, those privy to this knowledge, the Kashu'khas, hastened to make their escape. Regrettably, the Kashu'khas who were also Drugnod did not share the same fortune. In 746, the insurgency and the soul-collecting activities of the Widows of Modrerthim culminated in the downfall of the Drugnod Dynasty.
