From a distance, this place appears to be a natural earthen wall, incongruous with the flatness of the surrounding wetlands. Atop the berm, it becomes evident that the structure serves as the southern wall of an artificial lake. The builders of this feature, predominantly Draconic speakers, named it Grul Tendrok, loosely translated as "Muck Berm." This earthen embankment is a remnant of the Demon Spawn War. It is a massive, half-circular berm dotted with hundreds of flood gates. During the battles between the forces of Sess'innek and Semuanya, these gates would be opened to inundate the surrounding lands, either to flood and slow the onslaught of Sess'innek's forces or to launch a swift offensive using canoes, barges, and other watercraft. After the Demon Spawn War, the structure was abandoned. Reinforced and warded by Semuanya's own magic, it has endured well over the ages.
The structure's flood gates are no longer operational, with most sealed up by accumulated silt, mud, and vegetation. The interior of Grul Tendrok is not as one might expect. It comprises nine levels of intricate stonework, with a reinforcing skeletal framework that served as the abode for thousands in the past. Today, it has been parceled out to various rival groups or has become the lair of more dreadful inhabitants. Navigating the premises is no easy feat, as many passages are flooded, and some levels can only be accessed by lengthy underwater transits. When this structure was originally constructed, the combatants of the surrounding area were generally capable of spending considerable time underwater, with swim speeds equal to or exceeding their land-based mobility. This is the reason all the entrances to this edifice are situated beneath the waters of the artificial lake Grul Malom.
