Ahnutrix, Onairion, and Urkra'gom, the Reds of Kilth, were all bound by kinship, the progeny of the fabled crimson dragon Balta'khar. These descendants harbored a mutual disdain, born of envy, as profound as any foe they confronted. Their sire, consumed by vanity, claimed this rivalry signified a competitive spirit, a drive to emulate his own greatness.
In the God Era, the three scions of Balta'khar battled under the banner of Tiamat. When she was vanquished in the First Dragon Wake ( 218 GE - 235 GE ) , the three fled across the sea, disappearing from the surrounding conflicts. They were not evading Covenant forces, but rather the wrath of their leader. Instead of supporting Tiamat in her hour of greatest need, they were bickering over a baggage train overflowing with gold, gems, and powerful magic items. This baggage train, the "bait", was set by Asmodeus, luring the gold-coveting reds away from the main action. After learning of their leader's defeat, in which they were partially responsible, they presumed that Tiamat's staunchest loyalists, the Atumun Dein, would undoubtedly pursue them; however, this did not come to pass.
While traversing the Sea of Mourning, the trio of crimson dragons were intercepted by a squadron of silver dragons originating from Stahdim Goz. For the remainder of their voyage, they were closely observed, eventually persuaded to take up residence in Kilth. Venturing into these mountains, teeming with Covenant troops, they descended into the Khuzir and entered a state of Dragons Slumber - a profound slumber rendering them mentally undetectable.
In the Lith-Crillion Era, around 600 LE, miners from Felak breached the chambers of the slumbering dragons. The Reds of Kilth initially made little headway against the invaders. This changed when they set aside their differences, formulating a strategic alliance. They enlisted the aid of mercenaries from the Glimmerkrim city-states, as well as others with scores to settle with the peoples of Felak and her sister holds, the city-states of Gulud-Burâg, Ilagandam, and Tholig-Mizin.
In the Kilth Deeps War ( 614 LE - 623 LE ) , the Reds of Kilth conquered Felak and numerous other domains and city-states. Many of the subjugated populace were enslaved, compelled to toil in the mines or construct grand lairs for their draconic overlords. Amid the feuds between the three dragons, erstwhile allies found themselves embroiled in often futile conflicts.
Over the following three centuries, Ahnutrix, Onairion, and Urkra'gom sired numerous offspring. Some of the crimson dragons that lurk within the cavernous depths across Ma'Ohari and the shadowy crevices of Dhark Bolg are their progeny.
Varelay's rapid rise to power and mounting threat compelled the Reds of Kilth to once again unite and confront a formidable foe. The dragons, after three centuries of decadence, were no match for the demons and their legions. In the Red Scourge ( 931 LE - 945 LE ) , the dragon's armies were ultimately defeated.
