This conflict was the first Dragon Wake. It occurred simultaneously with the Hoof Front, a small-scale war within the broader Demon Spawn War. In several battles, there were four armies on the field: the angelic forces of the Covenant and their mortal allies facing the Abyssal legions, with the skies filled by the wings of dragons – those serving the abomination dragon Tiamat, and others under Bahamut. The two dragon commanders also had their ground troops. The Three Orders, comprised primarily of Kriistvrii soldiers, formed the largest contingent under Bahamut. Tiamat's ground forces were mostly demons loaned to her by Orcus.

The First Dragon Wake occurred when Tiamat severed ties with Bahamut, several months after Operation Crab Advance. During this operation, Tiamat was grievously wounded by the demon general Drurn-Adruk (under Orcus). Her injuries were infused with chaotic energy from the demon general's talons, rapidly altering her both mentally and physically. She transformed into a monstrous entity with five dragon heads and an enormous body. Tiamat's mindset shifted, leading her to perceive Bahamut as a prideful and egotistical leader, despite this not being entirely true. Tiamat, once Bahamut's most respected and decorated general, abandoned him. Once it was discovered that she was incorporating demons into her growing army, they became adversaries. Taking responsibility for Tiamat's transformation and driven by excessive pride, Bahamut made the First Dragon Wake a personal matter. He refused assistance from other allied archangels and considered this war a side conflict of the Demon Spawn War, outside the jurisdiction of the Quaratun Covenant.

Krein Jusk

In the Lok Gevild region of the Aerie of Dragons, Tiamat utilized a powerful rod gifted to her by Tarâk. This primordial forged item is known as the Volfdir Jollrod. The rod was employed to tear apart the landscape, leaving gaping rifts, holes, and craters. The debris from these areas then floated skyward, forming a jungle of rock and debris. Across what became known as Gelok Himdah, the Lifted Land, the sky transformed into a maze of sky islands infused with the energy of Chaos. These sky islands, each an earth mote, made aerial navigation quite treacherous. Tiamat stationed her minions on some of these sky islands, tasking them with constructing great towers and fortresses. These structures were then manned by fire giants, demon mercenaries, and evil dragons. As a result of this network of sky fortresses, Bahamut's numerical advantage in dragons could not be leveraged to his benefit, turning what would have been an air war into a ground conflict. In response, Bahamut summoned an army from another world to serve as his ground forces, which was largely composed of Kriistvrii.

Numerous dilapidated outposts, keeps, and fortresses litter the surface and sky islands across Lok Gevild. The majority of these structures are ancient ruins that remain from the First Dragon Wake.

The Aerie of Dragons is home to an exceptionally high concentration of dragon-bloods. This is attributed to the region's history, as many existing tribes, clans, and families are descended from armies that fought in the First Dragon Wake and the Demon Spawn War. For instance, the Khage are descendants of the Hammers of Khage, who served under Munkar Khage. Similarly, the Vex Viing trace their lineage to one of Bahamut's reconnaissance battalions, the 222nd.
