In the Creation War ( 1486 DE - 8777 DE ) , Tarâk was a radical Covenant colonel who sought extreme and brutal methods to orchestrate the destruction of the primordials. He was a gifted engineer, with increasingly erratic tendencies as the war progressed. His measures became so extreme that the Covenant's supreme leader, Bal-Kriav, decided that in the interests of morality, Tarâk should be reassigned. He was sent far away, to the moon Dûlan-Nûl, where he would serve as the first line of defense against a primordial invasion of Ilabizdum and her three moons.

On the moon Dûlan-Nûl, Tarâk labored on a massive device intended to devastate enemy fortifications and ultimately their worlds. This type of thinking, however, contradicted the Covenant's core beliefs. The Creation War sought to preserve the Works of Creation, not to destroy them in the process of defeating adversaries. Tarâk named the first prototype, a formidable device, the World Splitter. This colossal drill was powered by warp matter extracted from the Decomposition String. Obtaining this warp matter came at a great cost to Tarâk and his personal guard, the Slaad Hexos. In 7792 DE, exposure to the Decomposition String resulted in them all becoming chaos infused. Tarâk's lithe, nearly flawless Lith-Crillion physique was warped, becoming part stone, part flesh, with sharp features akin to an earth archon. Infected by Chaos, he was shunned by the Covenant's Negative Entropy Idealists for a prolonged period. Over the centuries, he labored to purge the entropic influences from his essence. Eventually, he balanced his Energy Composition with near-equal parts Negative Entropy and its opposite. He bitterly blamed Bal-Kriav and the Covenant for these tribulations, and as a result, when he Ascended, the Divine Domain that attached to him was Hatred. When he became a demigod, his penchant for construction and engineering led him to adopt the Craft domain.

In 8426 DE, Tarâk utilized the Decomposition String to generate the Grimlock race. Situated on the world Bal-Kriav, they became the foundation of his expanding adherents. They were dispatched to colonize the dark domains of Bal-Kriav and other realms of the Quara'tun System. When the Covenant learned of Tarâk's Grimlock creation, they prohibited him from regions under Covenant control. For the remainder of the Creation War, Tarâk focused on safeguarding and proliferating his people, supporting the war effort for either side when advantageous to him.

In the God Era, Tarâk pursued the same strategic approach, providing assistance during the Demon Spawn War when it aligned with his objectives. He engaged in combat against the Quara'tun Covenant whenever they impeded his progress. Driven by an ambition to dominate the subterranean domain, Tarâk frequently clashed with the Abyssal Hegemony.

Today, Tarâk primarily clashes with Geb and Blibdoolpoolp over the dominion of the subterranean realm. Blibdoolpoolp is perhaps his greatest adversary. This enmity dates back to the God Era when she captured his grimlocks and transformed them into kuo-toans. Tarâk commands a substantial following, the majority of whom dwell underground, with the Grimlock and Mîmêk being the most populous races.
