Built in the First Epoch, on the 21st of Temporal 605, Aebilchunus originated as a sacred citadel, purposed with keeping the surrounding area free of undead and the trade routes open. They dispatched "cleaners" into the thirteen labyrinths of Drachlaz and miles of ancient lava tubes, vanquishing those spawned from a long-standing haven of foulness. By the Year 800, its original purpose had been supplanted by a burgeoning population and an uptick in commerce with the fiery brutes of the east, transforming Aebilchunus into a prominent trade stop.

Aebilchunus is situated on the western periphery of a volcanic region denominated Sephu'phis. The outlying forge districts of this expansive city-state lie along the banks of lava canals. Propelled by water channeled into the municipality through four grand aqueducts, each a fortification in its own regard, the city is renowned for its marbled steam baths.

In the early stages of the Second Epoch, the Goth-Dyvermoir emerged as a formidable threat when they waged war against the Mîmêk, Blutoid, and Trog villages and towns scattered across the region. Serving as trading partners and a buffer zone between Aebilchunus, a prosperous city-state, and its aggressive neighbor from the surface, the two are now engaged in their fifth conflict.

The diverse population of Aebilchunus includes the Blutoid, descendants of those who departed willingly and unwillingly from Mughakh-Gol, the half-illithid Vedrii, a product of illithid bio-engineering, and the illithid, once freedom fighters who freed the enslaved trog and now manage affairs with exceptional efficiency. The city's Mîmêk are descendants of the four great holds of the Smizerak Empire.
