This settlement was founded in the Dawn Era by Tarâk's creations, the Grimlock. For an extended period, population growth was sluggish under what Tarâks Minion Roster designated the 3rd Tarâk Encampment. They resembled numerous grimlock settler groups under Tarâk's command, tasked with claiming the surrounding territory. Tarâk's long-term objective was to establish a widespread base of worshippers spanning the Underdark. After sustaining themselves independently for a decade, Tarâk named the settlement Akalgas.
Situated in Brucrumus's Tier 2 Underdark, Akalgas remained distant from the combat zones that comprised the Creation War and the Demon Spawn War. They had been instructed by Tarâk to abstain from the fighting, instead concentrating on expansion, construction, and the investigation of the subterranean realms.
In the Lith-Crillion Era, Akalgas found itself in conflict with the aboleth of Sathubas. Three city-states of these creatures had concocted a plan to submerge the region, or as they claimed, "create living space for their people." To counter the rising water table, Akalgas's populace and hundreds of earth elementals, the latter dispatched courtesy of Geb, constructed the remarkable Akalgas Wheel. The intricate network of canals and water wheels of this engineering marvel successfully halted the flooding of Sathubas. As a fortuitous byproduct, it also established a trade link between Akalgas and the settlements near the Sidari-Nyx, the most significant of which is Valangrim.
The city's Earth Elemental population derived from the nearly three centuries of construction work on the Akalgas Wheel. Without their tireless efforts, this marvel of engineering would never have materialized. The elementals were not subservient beings, but rather agents of Geb, working diligently for Tarâk's devoted followers. In exchange for their invaluable assistance in preserving Akalgas, Tarâk reluctantly instructed his followers to permit the construction of a shrine dedicated to the god Geb. This shrine has since blossomed into a grand temple, serving as a sacred space for prayer and the primary entrance to the Akalgas Wheel.
