Sathubas is the subterranean region beneath Imgangreth. Halfway into the Lith-Crillion Era, the region's water tables began to rise. The area's aboleth were responsible for this, disrupting the water balance to create more living space. At the time, places like Ophudehk were projected to reach their population limit in another five hundred years. As a long-lived race with ample time to plan and the patience to await the fruits of their labor, they commenced the work of re-channeling water from the region above. They proceeded cautiously, ensuring not to redirect too much into the lower depths. Nearing the conclusion of the Lith-Crillion Era, the great lake surrounding Ophudehk had transformed into a sea, and numerous caves and tunnels were now submerged. Observing the waters rise ever so gradually, many of Sathubas's non-aboleth inhabitants packed up and departed for drier land. The holdouts, with water lapping at the edge of their settlements, became easy targets for their aquatic foes. The Grimlock city-state of Akalgas worked diligently to counter the advancing waters. Aided by earth elementals, they constructed a series of great water wheels and canals known as the Akalgas Wheel. This device was not alone in the endeavor, as others were built, eventually stabilizing the region's water table.
