Chaos is a raging tempest of entropic energy and matter at the core of the universe. It is the wellspring from which all subsequent systems have emerged. It is the domain whence the primordials arose, and where their lesser creations still wander.

Chaos is a boundless expanse devoid of worlds, encompassing shattered planets, dying stars, and immense quantities of matter and every variety of energy. The nearest celestial bodies to this chaotic realm are the Elemental Ring Worlds. The two closest systems are Limbo and the former Piranoth's Steps.

Chaos is governed by instability, entropy, and change. This means that entropic energy is purposed to unravel other energies and break matter down. Over time, elements are constructed or come into existence, but if they lack a sustaining force, then entropic energy will commence dismantling them. Realms like Granitoid and Muspelheim have remained intact on the precipice of this sea of chaos because certain Higher Powers have transformed them into sources of their dominion.

The demon lords, upon seizing Piranoth's Steps, unknowingly infused the area with a trace of Negative Entropy.

Atlas, from the Foundation Monolith - "Transforming Chaos into Order"

In the Dawn Era, the Creationists commenced constructing realms and all that they encompass. To the formidable powers of Chaos, the creation of this magnitude was perceived as introducing order and stability to their domain. The Creation War, spanning from 1486 DE to 8777 DE, was a conflict aimed at undoing creation, restoring it to the folds of chaos.
