A Dragon Wake is a widespread awakening of dragons across vast regions, occasionally spanning multiple continents. The First Dragon Wake (218 GE - 235 GE) was initiated by Bahamut.
The Dragon Wake Ritual provokes a state of frenzy in dragons. For a time, the personal motives of the dragons, their vanity, and their frequent feelings of superiority are subdued as they enter a frenzied state, characterized by frantic eating, pillaging, and destruction. Those with the requisite strength and access to exceedingly potent components can harness the dragons, employing them as an unstoppable military force.

As the principal component, Bahamut utilized the cranium of a demon prince he had personally vanquished. With the concluding incantation, the dragons of Midrêth were notified of a summons, those in profound dormancy roused, those under the burden of another, liberated from arcane domination.
Upon exiting their lairs, they were cognizant of the reason for their awakening and it was their responsibility to answer the summons. The majority of the virtuous dragons heeded the summons of Bahamut, while those of malevolent intent rallied to the banner of Tiamat. A handful of the neutral dragons committed to the effort, but most perceived the Demon Spawn War as a more significant cause, pledging allegiance to the Covenant.

Successive Dragon Wakes have been conducted using the same ritual undertaken by the mighty Bahamut. The subsequent Dragon Wakes have proven considerably less potent than the original, as observed by esteemed dragon lore masters. This phenomenon is deemed natural, given the ritual's reliance on dragon magic; when executed by a dragon as formidable as Bahamut, the ritual reaches its pinnacle, summoning dragons across the realm to rise for some greater purpose.
