The Dark Sea is a frigid expanse beneath the buoyant islands composing Šadullu. Certain regions of this sea are dimly illuminated, perpetually shrouded in shadows or total darkness. The degree of light in these areas largely depends on the size and proximity of the landmass above as well as other visibility determinants such as precipitation and cloud cover.
A perpetual storm rages across the Dark Sea. Legend has it that this tempest arose when Silvanus witnessed the devastation that befell an entire continent. Back then, before the primordial incursion into the Mortal Systems, Šadullu held special significance for Silvanus. It served as an incubation ground for new jungle-dwelling species, which would be transferred to other forested regions of the realm should they thrive. When Silvanus beheld the destruction wrought by the Nine-Tongued Worm, the shattered continent of Šadullu now reduced to floating islands and debris, he is said to have cried out in anguish.
The water from Silvanus's tears and profound sorrow was such that a miracle occurred. A ceaseless storm was born from his anguish, one that now rages perpetually across a somber sea. Many have taken to referring to this storm as Silvanus's Tears due to this very legend.
Arngrek, Laupha Loremaster - "Dark Sea, Dark Storm"
The Dark Sea serves as a refuge for hundreds of death ships manned by lost souls who perished when Šadullu was torn asunder. These undead vessels, though ancient in design, remain formidable threats, with crews of undead who fight like seasoned pirates. Even when defeated, they possess the ability to regenerate, rising again on the following day unless consigned to the flames. The sheer strength and number of the Dead Pirates is such that no coastal settlements exist on Oralûth or along the southern shores of Straiden and Karterus.
