The plains of Balormene lie northwest of the Turnîrâth valley. This magically dead area, stretching 100 miles long, 20 miles wide, and 5 miles deep, prohibits the functioning of any magic or artifacts. Within this region stands an ancient Lith-Crillion ruin known as Crillius-Sarrus. The Dead Magic Zone was established here by the Lith-Crillion to contain an ancient creature, the stone colossus Ingugrek, imprisoned beneath one of Crillius-Sarrus's hills. Ingugrek, who once served the primordials in the Creation War, had nearly been freed by a spell that went awry. The creation of this dead magic zone was the only way to prevent this ancient behemoth from destroying the nearby city.
Some intelligent undead prefer this locale as they can leverage the Dead Magic Zone as a formidable defense against their adversaries.
