In a dead magic zone, no magic, psionics, artifact, or mage-like capability will function. Divine magic and constructs also do not work. Intelligent undead and other creatures vulnerable only to magical assaults favor these areas. Most dead magic zones arise from irreparable rifts in the Web of Magic.
One of the most extensive dead magic zones is Balormene. It was purposefully created by the Lith-Crillion to shut down a stone colossus that they likely lost dominion over.
The deadening effect typically encompasses a 10d10 x 10' cubic area within a dead magic zone. The dust from these zones is sometimes collected and used to create Nullifier Dust. The area of effect for exploding rounds utilizing this dust matches the range of the artillery piece employed to fire the projectile.
A temporary dead magic zone is generated when a Globule of Arcane is destroyed. This produces an area of dust that is equally as magic-deadening as Balormene, albeit on a far more limited scale.
