The storm giants have inhabited this bay since the Dawn Era, with nearly all of them claiming ancestry to soldiers who served under Talos during the Creation War. The giants have a history of piracy that originated from their interactions with a Gradorian captain from Kel'gah. Prior to the rise of the Khazarkar Empire and Shounejo, Bastleid's storm giant pirates were the most feared group in Gunaegail. Reprisals for their unrestrained piracy and raiding led them to band together and form the Naurghar empire. Their settlements are situated along the bay and up the deep fjords that characterize the region.
