Gelok Himdah is Draconic for Lifted Land. This moniker was bestowed during the God Era, when pockets of the terrain were forcibly ripped aloft, ascending to become sky isles. This phenomenon occurred during the First Dragon Wake (218 GE - 235 GE), when the armies of Tiamat engaged those of Bahamut in conflict. To counter the larger airborne forces of her adversary, Tiamat utilized a potent rod named Volfdir Jollrod, transforming landmasses into earth motes. Upon these floating islands, Tiamat's army constructed an intricate network of fortifications, complete with dangling hooks and invisible nets. While most of these aerial hazards have since vanished, some can still be heard on windy days, clanging against the rocks or whistling through the gusts.
The region of Gelok Himdah remains in a state of disrepair from the era when it hosted the final, cataclysmic confrontation between the draconic deities Tiamat and Bahamut. The imposing fortifications constructed during that tumultuous period now lie as overgrown ruins. Several of the sky islands in this area serve as the lairs and hunting grounds for a variety of aerial predators, including manticores, chimeras, dragons, rocs, and other fearsome winged creatures. The land below these floating landmasses is punctuated by massive craters, some containing ponds and lakes, while others descend into the dark, cavernous depths below.
