In 1689 HE, prospectors from Gúra uncovered iron and platinum deposits in these hills. Over the subsequent centuries, the Toomrur exploited slave labor, primarily from goblins and hobgoblins, to expand and deepen these mines. This not only established Gúra as a prosperous city-state by the start of the First Epoch, but also spawned corruption, conflict, and banditry.
In the First Epoch, an Ogre Lord named Eneriyes seized control of these hills. After driving Gúra's forces southward, and then to the very gates of the enemy's capital, Eneriyes ' demands were conceded. All of Gudrall, including its populace, became the property of the region's new Ogre Lord. Eneriyes compelled these people to construct the lake citadel of Dumugon, which served to safeguard her interests and as a palace by day, as well as the setting for drug-induced orgies by night.
In the Second Epoch, the Orchish Empire set its sights eastward, targeting the resources of Gudrall and the northern hills of Branchard. Under the watchful eye of the city-state of Dumugon, these hills and city changed ownership numerous times during the course of the First Ogre War (1505 - 1511).
In the Crimson Offensive ( 1804 - 1810 ) , as siege lines marched towards Norgtrum, the war-ravaged hills of Gudrall were littered with the remains of countless skeletons and shattered military equipment.
