Hiadonu is a swamp situated in the western tracts of Gakebe. Over the course of a millennium, it has been expanded through the construction of canals and excavation. Initially, this endeavor was undertaken for defensive purposes, creating a natural barrier against threats from the north. The northward extension of the swamp established an unbroken natural defense, starting with Hoze Huemutril, then linking with Hiadonu, Dianu, and finally fortified against the jagged spires of Qibemjues. This expansion of the swamp effectively closed the last accessible route for invaders entering Kalaran from Padimza.
In the Second Epoch, agriculture and farming expanded into the constructed regions of the swamp. This led to the establishment of villages and several towns within the swamp. All the Shou habitations are built upon stilts, rocks, and a few are levitated by magic, situated above the waters. The other prominent features of the swamp are the deep ponds and lakes near the center. These submerged locations serve as the abode of Viidostor and a type of Pyrmidian Ghouls that can breathe underwater. The presence of these creatures in the area has led some to speculate that a Pyramid of Power may lie submerged within the swamp.
The swamp is peppered with outposts and fortifications, some actively occupied by the Shounejo or left to the whims of nature and wildlife. Numerous of these structures were constructed as the swamp's domain expanded. They functioned as sanctuaries for workers when endangered by raiders or large-scale Tiya'lith offensives.
