Izdurgrak is situated across a mountain pass leading northward into the glacial vales of Khalas. This pass, the Khazan-Fel, represents the optimal route for accessing the vale.
In Malad-Mîn's conflicts with the Gadstill Dynasty, Izdurgrak was besieged numerous times, succumbing six occasions, twice where all defenders were slain. After the collapse of Gadstill, operations pivoted from defending against giants to combating the undead. Fortifications were modified to address restless spirits and the lifeless that emerged in 1537 HE when an eldritch giant lich named Erthjorn and his undead legions fell upon the walls of Izdurgrak.
Izdurgrak is connected to Khalas via sixteen subterranean passages. These passages are protected by formidable strongholds that can be inundated with frigid glacial water in the event of an invasion.
