The western glacial valley of the Ice Cap Region is Khalas. The most civilized group inhabiting the valley are the people of Brisingr. Boasting a rich history, the valley and its surrounding peaks are scattered with the ruins of bygone empires. In the far west lie the remnants of the Gadstill Dynasty, while in the middle are the ruins of Malad-Mîn. Near the eastern edge of the valley, close to Halavile, stand the crumbling remains of Saer Erkjorg.

Today, the four principal groups of the valley are the Turkûn of the Brisingr Federation, the Azwyr Amoruk of the Gamakkhazar Confederation, frost giants with scattered allegiance to one of at least a dozen petty chiefs, and the restless Goliath tribes.

Khalas is the sole location where azure crystals can be found. Radiating an internal bioluminescence, traversing the valley at nightfall is purported to resemble journeying through the enchanted forests of the world of Kriav.
