Kesk Lein, Draconic for World Rib, is a vast expanse of rugged rocky outcroppings with an ominous and unnatural appearance. The spires of rock are sometimes referred to as The Talons. Countless slender pinnacles of stone stand alongside numerous massive, jagged spires the size of lone mountains. Beginning at Sosin Luv in the west, Kesk Lein traverses nearly 2,000 miles of landscape before reaching Morwuld Briin. Even in the depths of this ocean, the spires continue northeast, ascending the sea floor into the continent of Amachan.
The spires of Kesk Lein provide ideal havens for the airborne predators of the Aerie of Dragons. Innumerable caves and tunnels populate these formations, constructed over millennia by monsters and others seeking a remote refuge or to mine the resources within. The terrain between the outcroppings is often rugged, with broken ground, piles of debris, and wetlands. Some of these wetlands are little more than fetid pools harboring terrors like water weirds and mud slaadi. The largest concentration of monsters around Kesk Lein comprises death dogs. These two-headed magical beasts were created long ago by Mir'piamauza. The experiments that yielded these creatures also resulted in some capable of breeding and propagating their kind. Consequently, tens of thousands of these creatures lurk in hidden burrows and caves. Long ago, mud slaadi were summoned to Bal-Kriav by Zeymah'kein wizards to help cull the growing death dog population. Today, both death dogs and mud slaadi exist in many areas near the World Rib.
