The Khâl-Rakhs are hills that wrap around the western edges of Kilth, then curve across the upper reaches of Anutoth, eventually terminating four hundred miles later at Kraaroz bay.
In 1140, a decade after the Irastâ vanished into the Broken Lands, reports emerged of blackened elderaunts assailing Salandirik's farms and frontier outposts. These attacks escalated with each passing year, as trade ships relayed the fate that had befallen the Irastâ. This tribe had once governed Salandirik, but after their expulsion, they wandered and fell under Abyssal influences, transforming into Maleraunts. Approximately 500 returned to the Khâl-Rakhs, while the remainder fled to the Kilth mountains or allied with Ba'lith. Their numbers swelled, with those concealing themselves in the Khâl-Rakhs posing a hindrance to Ivory Asylum's colonial ambitions.
In 1467, the nearby port city of Salandirik succumbed to the forces of the Black Tide. Many of the living inhabitants who came to populate this undead haven were the maleraunts of the Khâl-Rakhs. They remained there until the arrival of the next overlords during the Burterinii-Bloodtusk War (1795 - 1800). Once more, the maleraunts were driven into the hills. Fortunately for those living in the hills, the maleraunts pose a threat only east of Salandirik.
The towers and strongholds grow increasingly sophisticated and expansive as one journeys upland into the ridges of Kilth. They possess an abundance of resources and gold, drawn from the forgotten holds of Felak.
