The Kilth mountain range extends for approximately six hundred miles across Anutoth and into the lower region of sector Tha'lith. This area is steeped in deep historical significance, once utilized by the Covenant to train mortal armies, later serving as the fiefdom of three dragons, and subsequently becoming the territory of a demon empire.
In the Lith-Crillion Era, Kilth served as the battleground for three crimson dragons. These serpents were all descendants of Balta'khar, making them second-generation scions of Tiamat. Referred to as the Reds of Kilth, they rose to power alongside those Glimmerkrim city-states seeking to settle scores with their subterranean neighbors. During the Kilth Deeps War (614 LE - 623 LE), the dragons seized control of the dwarven holds dotting Kilth and those situated within the dark reaches below.
The Varelay Empire, which spanned from 684 LE to 2620 LE, effectively halted the westward expansion of the Reds of Kilth and their slave army.
The Line of Balta'khar, descendants of Tiamat, often at odds over land, temporarily set aside their disputes, concentrating on eliminating the demonic empire. They equipped and instructed their numerous dwarven slaves, placing them under the command of their Fomorian slave masters.
The demon's deception proved victorious. The Red's enslaved masses were stirred to action, promised liberation and the establishment of their own independent dwarven city-states. Although the demon's promises were known to be falsehoods, any glimmer of hope was preferable to enduring the oppressive rule of the Reds of Kilth.
Ramukthalin, the esteemed High Seer of Felak, as chronicled in his renowned work "Rise and Fall of Varelay"
The conflict between the Reds of Kilth and the demon empire Varelay became known as the Red Scourge. This protracted struggle, spanning a duration of fifteen years, ultimately concluded with the dragon's colossal slave armies rebelling against their overlords.
Today, central Kilth is claimed by the descendants of those dwarves who served under the dragon whip. The largest of these groups is the Smizerak Empire. During the Horgon Era, this empire held sway over much of Anutoth and Aerruxa. After wars with Gurutharni's yuan-ti, Drachlaz Lords, and the empire's growing decadence, the population and grandeur of the empire declined.
Kilth is renowned for its bestial war rams, dire types, that have served as war steeds since the area was first settled by the people of Gamba-Nîr. Another notorious beastly types are the Giant Vultures of Kilth; disease-carriers, matching wyverns for their size and ferocity. During the Black Tide War (1465 - 1486), hundreds of these colossal vultures were ridden into battle by the Black Wing; mounted wights under the ghostly banners of the Black Tide.
In the Second Epoch, groups of Maleraunts established settlements within the remote interior of Kilth.
