Map Melrith's Hunger

Before it was known as Melrith's Hunger, the area was the forest of Erassil. Near the commencement of the Lith-Crillion Era, it became a battleground for the forces of nature and those of decay. The conflict initially emerged as a low-level skirmish, where plants empowered by Dark Nature Energy fed upon those fueled by its opposite, nature energy. By 200 LE, this struggle of plants transforming nature energy into dark nature energy had spread to insects and then the forest's fey. Though unproven, some speculate that Melrith, the Mistress of Decay, orchestrated this transformation, converting a lush forest into a desolate desert.

The Einglach, adversaries of Melrith and her adherents, were the ones who devised the term "Melrith's Hunger" for the forested region transformed into a desert. In proximity to the polluted landscape, "cursed by a petty deity," the Einglach assert, with limited natural vitality to sustain themselves, those empowered by sinister natural forces migrated to the peripheries, progressively enlarging the ravenous desert with each successive year.

The desert periphery of this region is sprinkled with encampments, towers, and occasional fortresses, garrisons, and dwellings of those contending against the advancement of Melrith's Blight. These include druids, minions of Silvanus, rangers, and others on missions to impede the corruption of Nature.

Today, Melrith's Hunger exhibits only faint traces of Dark Nature Energy, sufficient for seeds to sprout and briefly flourish before their vitality is drained. Even potent druidic spells, such as plant growth, struggle to establish a lasting hold within this barren realm. Across the desert's rugged crags and windswept hills, a hardy brown grass thrives, well-suited for crafting straight blades. Known as Decaying Fescue, this plant is unique to Melrith's Hunger, a manifestation of the uneasy balance between nature's power and its opposing forces.
