Created during the Demon Spawn War ( 89 GE - 269 GE ) , this rift was a link between Chaos and the world of Bal-Kriav, forged by the primordial disembodied thinker known as Ingu'lumin. Ingu'lumin employed a massive floating rock in the infinite, entropic expanse of Chaos, using it as a wedge to keep open a rift in the Web of Magic. On Bal-Kriav, this alien mountain, later dubbed Gunul-Birum, defiled the landscape, dispersing ash and fiery, entropic matter across the region that came to be called the Rukhs wasteland.
Ingu'lumin's First Rift was short-lived. Designed and implemented at great expense, it was merely a test to gauge the level of resistance from the Web's indomitable weave spiders. These eternal guardians of the Web swiftly arrived at the tear, repairing and sealing the rift to halt the flood of entropic matter. During their efforts, they eliminated three of Ingu'lumin's clones. Following the closure of what became known as Ingu'lumin's First Rift, its creator initiated the second stage of his plan, the opening of another, Ingu'lumin's Second Rift.
