Ingu'lumin, a primordial disembodied thinker, was created during the tumultuous Creation War, which raged from 1486 DE to 8777 DE, by the formidable Nine-Tongued Worm. As with other disembodied thinkers, he was tasked with managing the vast legions under his master's command and coordinating their efforts across the vast expanse of the conflict.

Ingu'lumin's brain was composed of thousands of brains merged together in a sinister, clandestine experiment. These brains were reportedly the brilliant intellects of those who perished defending Sphere 380.

The dominant brain gradually overtook the others, absorbing their cognitive abilities to bolster its own. The disembodied thinker was then subjected to a force, potentially psionic in nature, which lobotomized the brain, rendering it subservient to a primordial master.

Ptah, excerpt from a Scroll of Dawn - "Primordial Psionic Surgery"

Ingu'lumin held little value to the Nine-Tongued Worm and was even suspected of being an informant for the one who had created him.

The Nine-Tongued Worm tended to favor brute force assaults rather than formulating intricate and victorious strategies. Had he heeded my counsel, we would have overcome Bal-Kriav and expelled the Nawirrûs Covenant from Sphere 411.

Ingu'lumin, from Hirstyr Signir - "Intellect Triumphs Over Strength"

When the Nine-Tongued Worm was defeated at the Battle of Šadullu ( 1501 DE ) , Ingu'lumin escaped to Nemexus. In one of his laboratories, he utilized a primordial ichor or elixir to transform his body into water, which then dissipated into Nemexus's swirling cloud of debris. The gods and angels were unable to locate him, mistakenly assuming he had fled back to Chaos with his master.

In the Demon Spawn War ( 89 GE - 269 GE ) , the substance Ingu'lumin used to transform himself into vapor eventually dissipated. After regaining his corporeal form, the revived Ingu'lumin turned his attention to reigniting the primordial invasion of the Mortal Systems. He opened a rift to Chaos, which summoned a volcanic eruption into the depths of Unaraggumak and up to the surface of the region then known as Maziggandîm. Following the sealing of this first rift by weave spiders, Ingu'lumin attempted to open another rift in the newly formed volcano, which had entered the world of Bal-Kriav and left a sea of entropy in its wake. However, this second rift proved unstable and soon collapsed, drawing the unnatural volcano back into Chaos. The aftermath of this event was the creation of the sinkhole Zurukthûr and the fragment known as Gunul-Birum. Following these occurrences, the angels set out to locate Ingu'lumin. Despite the traps and guardians of Nemexus, which claimed many of their number, the angels were eventually able to capture some prisoners and learn that their quarry had departed shortly after the failure of his second rift.

Ingu'lumin's unwavering resolve to open a rift to Chaos did not conclude at Zurukthûr. A decade later, he was approached by his mentor, the Nine-Tongued Worm, commanding him to assist the demon lord Yeenoghu.

My old adversaries are wearing me down. I am being slowed with each poisonous arrow and thrust. Nawenglorûs's venom is polluting my blood, causing me to falter. When I perish, I will sacrifice my abdominal rift to a spell that will open it somewhere in Zyrath. This will unleash such entropic power that even the weave spiders will never be able to close it. You will aid the demon lord Yeenoghu through the rift and assist him in bringing ruin to our Covenant enemies.

The Nine-Tongued Worm, a telepathic connection to Ingu'lumin - "The Final Directive"

In the year 158 of the God Era, Yeenoghu invaded Bal-Kriav by emerging through the Primordial Storm. His closest advisor was Ingu'lumin, and unlike his previous master, Yeenoghu allowed Ingu'lumin to be the strategist while he acted as the formidable force during a demonic offensive that resulted in the capture and domination of the region now known as the Northern Hordelands.

Ingu'lumin was of such intellect that he would make the combined brain power of the Court of One Hundred Eyes seem infantile. His genius led to the finding of a Spark of Creation which allowed his master Yeenoghu to create a race of humanoids similar to him - the gnolls. While Yeenoghu and Ingu'lumin were together they were never routed, which is not to say they weren't driven from a battlefield. When the other demon lords began to fall to the Quara'tun Covenant, Ingu'lumin advised his master that it was time to retreat back to the Abyss. At this advise, Yeenoghu flew into a rage and nearly killed Ingu'lumin before his gnoll generals could stop him. After he came to his senses, Yeenoghu agreed with his now crippled adviser and left for the Abyss, taking a fully intact and battle-hardened army of demons and gnolls with him. He left a thousand gnolls on Bal-Kriav, to take care of Ingu'lumin and learn from him. Yeenoghu's last words to Ingu'lumin were:

See that they do not tear each other's throats out, and that they grow into something exceptional.

Yeenoghu, referred to by Ingu'lumin as "Destined for Greatness"

Under Ingu'lumin's tutelage, the gnolls eventually achieved greatness, founding the Drugnod Dynasty and the subsequent empire of Yagamph Ingu'lumin, however, did not live to witness these empires, succumbing to the injuries sustained during Yeenoghu's wrath five centuries later Through his disciplinary teachings, Ingu'lumin instilled a system of education within the gnolls that persisted until the fall of Yagamph Since then, the gnolls have experienced a gradual regression, becoming increasingly more bestial with each passing generation
