The Prisms of Worlds are sizable, hollow, crystalline constructs. They are octagonal in shape, with each side composed of a distinct colored glass. Contained within each is an octagonal block of the Ebon Bedrock. When they activate, at a random day and time annually, objects in proximity are transported to an alternate timeline.
Tome, a Syndic of the Council of Nine, crafted these magical devices as a means to reach distant realms. One of Tome's trusted assistants was secretly a devoted follower of Chronos. According to Tome's personal journals, Chronos became directly involved in his work, meddling with the aid of his most capable assistant. The eventual outcome, Tome concedes, surpassed a mere teleportation tool for accessing another world.
The Prisms of Worlds are temporal rifts between Bal-Kriav and the world of Oerth. One such Prism, the Prism of Paradomea, is located in Paradomea City. Whenever individuals within a designated area experience the Prism's random shifts, they are transported to the alternate timeline of Oerth. Once on Oerth, travelers can only return by utilizing another Prism situated within the grounds of Black Forge Keep.
The Prisms of Worlds possess a highly perilous side effect. Sojourners who linger for more than a cycle on the opposite side will come to regard the world they occupy as their native realm, and thus harbor no desire to return.
