Formerly a part of the world known as Regulus, the Ebon Bedrock is a colossal slab of rock that fell into the world of Bal-Kriav in the Creation War.
In 4261 DE, a portion of Regulus was severed and cast into a swirling maelstrom. This maelstrom was a rift, a mechanism used for dismantling worlds, and a creation of one of the most powerful and dangerous primordials, the Master of Tides. This being of pure chaos sought to tear apart the worlds, returning everything to Chaos. He had commenced the dismantling of Regulus, hurling its fragments into a rift. The shattered pieces drifted randomly through the systems until settling in various worlds. One such fragment ended up in a coastal region of Bal-Kriav.
We contemplated restoring the extraterrestrial substance to Regulus, but some opposed the proposition. They suggest it may provide a basis for Negative Entropy, safeguarding against the clutches of Chaos.

When the Tragarans came to Hells Womb, they constructed a fishing village just south of what was then a hill. From a distance, the hill appeared ordinary. Upon closer examination, it was discovered that all the grass and other plant life of the same species were of uniform size. As the village expanded, the population grew to and up the hill. The builders found it challenging to construct structures here, as anything not built with utmost precision - such as a building with one side slightly higher than the other or a doorway unlike its neighbor's - would begin to suffer stress and sometimes collapse. Over many years, the buildings and shacks in the area multiplied, most of which were condemned structures. Many believed the hill to be inhabited by a capricious spirit that resisted interlopers building upon its domain. Owing to the hill's peculiar nature and the dilapidated structures, it became a haven for the impoverished and the unsavory.
The seers at Nuciregmas had documented extensive knowledge of the hill over the years. Upon assuming power, the Council of Nine utilized this information to devise a strategic plan. They dispatched police forces to evacuate the population and earth elementals to clear the area of debris. Notably, Nuciregmas was the sole structure spared, as many Council members had either frequented this place or belonged to one or more of its associated societies.
The top of what many had deemed the "mysterious hill" was leveled through the Syndic's formidable magic and the efforts of powerful elementals. The excavation unveiled an eerie pitch-black stone beneath the hill, which the workers christened "Ebon Bedrock" - a moniker that endured. This material would serve as the foundation for the Palace of Nine. The excavated fragments from the hill have been utilized in the construction of columns, pillars, and other areas of the grand metropolis surrounding it. Whispers abound that these fragments possess vessels of extraordinary magical potency.
In the year 1312, a handful of Syndics spearheaded by Tome utilized some of the surplus excavation materials to craft three mechanisms facilitating inter-world travel between the realms of Bal-Kriav and Oerth. These mechanisms are known as the Prisms of Worlds.
The prolonged exposure to Ebon Bedrock is widely known to alter a creature's alignment towards lawful. All of the Syndics, the lich leaders of the Council of Nine, are lawfully aligned. However, this was not the case for some of them prior to their work on the hill, nor for all those who arrived long after the Palace of Nine was constructed. Experts on the undead, particularly liches, assert that the Syndics are not ordinary liches and that Ebon Bedrock somehow transforms them or restrains the negative energy coursing through them. Furthermore, certain sociologists correlate the stability and laws of the Council and Paradomea with the presence of Ebon Bedrock.
The Ebon Bedrock was formerly a component of Mechanus, imparting it with a Focus of Negative Entropy.
